Special needs shelters can provide safe refuge for people who require assistance with the management of a health condition or supervision of that condition by a health care professional during a time of disaster.
When hurricanes threaten Jefferson County, it may be necessary to open a shelter for residents of Jefferson County. Jefferson County residents in need of special needs sheltering will report to Leon County’s special needs shelter when open.
Physically, mentally, or sensory disabled, visually, or hearing-impaired residents or those who may need supplemental oxygen should register for Jefferson County’s Special Needs Shelter program. Register online or call the Jefferson County Emergency Operations Center at 850-342-0211.
