Special Needs Registry
Special needs shelters are for those with disabilities or who require medical care that exceeds basic first aid. Preregistration is important so emergency responders can ensure space is reserved for those with the greatest need.
The Public Health Preparedness Program at the Florida Department of Health in Jefferson County (DOH-Jefferson) coordinates all-hazards planning and preparedness activities to mitigate, prepare, respond, and recover from public health emergencies that threaten the health and safety of our citizens and visitors. Collaboration with Jefferson County’s Emergency Operations Center and partners ensures organized response to fulfill our mission to promote, protect and improve the health of all people through the delivery of high-quality public health services.
DOH-Jefferson employs a Public Health Preparedness Planner who serves as the planning and training liaison between the health department and other emergency response agencies. The Preparedness Planner and staff continually work with health, medical and disaster response organizations, and agencies in preparation for a public health emergency.
Outreach
Outreach is an integral part of our educational program. Participation in community events encourages preparation, planning, and emergency safety and awareness.
