HIV/AIDS

Contact Us

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that targets the body's immune system. Once someone gets HIV, they have it for life. The only way to know if you have HIV is to get tested. There are many ways to prevent HIV like using PrEP and never sharing needles. HIV treatment helps people living with HIV live live long, healthy lives and protect their partners.

Testing and Counseling

Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should have an HIV test in their lifetime.

Order a free at-home HIV Self-Test Kit to have it shipped directly to you.

The Florida Department of Health in Jefferson County (DOH-Jefferson) offers HIV testing to any person at no charge. Testing is confidential. Partner notification services are available. The testing procedure will include counseling and education by a healthcare professional.

Prevention

PrEP is part of an HIV prevention strategy that includes taking medication that reduces the risk of getting HIV. PrEP is available at DOH-Jefferson. Call for more information about prevention.

Treatment / AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP)

The AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) is a statewide, federally funded prescription medication program for low-income people living with HIV. This program provides medications to eligible clients either directly or by purchase of health insurance that includes coverage for HIV medications. DOH-Jefferson links eligible clients to ADAP care.
