Breastfeeding Assessment and Counseling
WIC provides breastfeeding information and support to pregnant women and to mothers who are breastfeeding. This is done through the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program and through Breastfeeding Support Groups, which are offered weekly. Breastfeeding Peer Counselors are mothers who have personal experience with breastfeeding and are trained to provide basic breastfeeding information and support to other mothers. Peer Counselors reinforce breastfeeding and provide mother-to-mother support in group settings as well as one-on-one counseling through telephone calls and/or visits in the clinic.
